In the early days of the Industrial Revolution, factories were almost exclusively constructed using brick and mortar. While today the practice has largely faded out, the classic old warehouses of yesteryear still stand as a testament to strength and character. The benefit of a masonry exterior is that conversion from industrial to residential is far more feasible and even desirable. I’ve actually seen that warehouse in San Francisco! The one that was converted into lofts by Edmonds + Lee Architects.
